What progressive lens do you usually dispense?
Our office limits progressive lens choices to those
designed by Essilor. After years of examining the
various products on the market, I am now of the opinion
that all progressives will perform as advertised. The
deciding factor seems to be more in fitting expertise
and familiarity with the product. By limiting the number
of progressives offered we are better able to discuss
the benefits of the design and trouble shoot complaints.
What A/R Coating do you prefer?
The only A/R coating used by this
office is Crizal Alize with Clear Guard. While there are
less expensive coatings on the market, the problems are
not worth the reduced cost.

What are your thoughts on
Ophthalmologists opening more dispensaries in the future?
As surgical reimbursements contract and medical
treatment options for Optometrists expand, more
Ophthalmologists will seek alternate means of revenue
enhancement. Properly managed in-office dispensaries have
the potential to increase an Ophthalmologists cash flow.
Unfortunately, the skills necessary to operate a successful
retail dispensary are rarely taught in most residency
programs.
What do you think the future holds for
Independent dispensaries?
Currently large outlets advertising perceived savings
saturate the low cost market. The over-priced "instant
eyeglasses" model is saturated as well and seems to be
losing favor among more sophisticated consumers. An
independent dispensary that provides high quality products
delivered by knowledgeable, qualified opticians, have a
promising future. |
