What progressive lenses do you usually dispense?

It's not really a fair question considering every patient's needs and wants are so extremely different. With lifestyles, cost, and seg heights, there is not just one for every situation but, the technology is on its way. I have used the new SOLAONE HD with a custom seg height. This patient had high demands like, Transitions, thin as can be, 15 seg, and wants to be able to see everything all the time. I could have given a 13 seg min. lens, but why short her 2mm. She received them a week ago and I have not heard any complaints. I hope this is the future and that it works.

What A/R Coating do you prefer?

I prefer an AR coating that stands behind itself with a great warranty, easy to clean and blue cast. If price is an issue for a patient, then no AR is better than a cheap one!

Do you tend to dispense more Silicone or non-Silicone Contact Lenses?

I do like the silicone lenses for the right patients, but I have had a few patients with problems. I'm up in the air on this one.

What are your thoughts on Ophthalmologists opening more dispensaries in the future?

This is a touchy question. I believe every ophthalmologist needs a team. It can be someone down the street or right next to them at the office. Dispensaries in the office are great for that patient that needs that extra special care. I know the optometrist thoughts of not wanting to refer to an ophthalmologist because of the fear of losing a patient, but that's not how it works. If you were referred, then you are sent back to the optometrist that referred you.

What do you think the future holds for independent dispensaries?

If independent dispensaries could keep great turnaround times I think they will do just fine. Patients are less likely to get lost in the mix. The dispensaries just have make the patients realize how special they are to the company.
