What progressive lens do you usually dispense?
Primarily we dispense Hoya Summit and iZon®
Progressives.
What A/R coating do you prefer?
Hoya HiVision with ViewProtect.
Do you tend to dispense more silicone or non-silicone
contact lenses?
Virtually all new wearers are going into silicone
hydrogels and our existing wearer patients are also being
converted to silicone lenses at their annual exams.

What are your thoughts on ophthalmologists opening more
dispensaries in the future?
We have seen very little competition from
ophthalmologists. Competition from chains and discount
retailers is greater than competition from ophthalmologists,
though that could certainly change in the future.
What do you think the future holds for independent
dispensaries?
It is imperative that independent dispensaries
differentiate from the competition by offering products that
the chains and discount retailers do not. For example, we
have had good success with iZon® High Resolution Lenses for
symptomatic patients with significant higher order
aberrations. This lens helps to strengthen the patient's
bond to our practice because it cannot be filled elsewhere.
Do you find it easier to convert traditional bifocal
wearers to the new PAL designs now available?
Unfortunately most traditional bifocal lens wearers still
do not get the width of reading area that they are used to
with their existing lenses. It is better now than with prior
designs, but this remains a challenge.
Are you finding that adaptation time is now shorter for
those who switch to PALs?
Adaptation is more successful now if we can convince the
patient to give him or herself the time to adjust to a PAL.
Again this remains a challenge for patients converting from
traditional bifocal lenses.
