The board of directors of Safilo Group S.p.A., which met on April 30 to release the company's first quarter results, confirmed Vittorio Tabacchi as chairman and Claudio Gottardi as chief executive officer. In addition, the board appointed Massimiliano Tabacchi as executive vice chairman.

Essilor International is planning to have two chief operating officers and will name Hubert Sagnieres, president of its North America and European divisions, as the second one, alongside current COO Phillipe Alfroid. The move, which is expected to be voted on in August, was announced by Essilor at its annual shareholder's meeting last month.

Bausch & Lomb has announced that Stuart Heap, a former CIBA Vision executive, has joined the company as corporate vice president and global president, vision care.  In addition, J. Andy Corley—co-founder of eyeonics, which B&L acquired earlier this year—has been named corporate VP and global president, surgical products.  Also, Michael Gowen, formerly with Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, has joined B&L as corporate VP and executive VP, global business operations and process excellence.  Heap is a former group VP of CIBA Vision and president of CIBA's global contact lens division.  Corley has more than 25 years' experience in the ophthalmic industry, including positions at American Medical Optics and Allergan Pharmaceuticals.  Gowen is a former VP of global operations and supply chain for the Johnson & Johnson group of consumer companies.

Briot USA Andrew Bumerts Briot USA has named Andrew Bumerts as National Sales Manager responsible for driving the company's sales efforts. Bumerts is an optical industry veteran with over 30 years of experience. He has been the south central territory sales manager with the company for the past 11 years. Nouveau Eyewear Jim Slattery Nouveau Eyewear has appointed Jim Slattery as vice president of Umbro Eyewear. Formerly a vice president of marketing and sales for Liberty Optical, Slattery is an industry veteran who brings over 30 years of management experience to the position. Slattery's role at Nouveau will include the development of sales, marketing and product strategies for the domestic and international launch of Umbro. CooperVision Jeffrey A. McLean CooperVision has also named Jeffrey A. McLean executive vice president of commercial strategies. McLean previously served as president of CooperVision's Americas region. In his new role, McLean will be responsible for managing CooperVision's global commercial strategies, including the seamless integration of marketing, product development, manufacturing, and sales across the organization, according to an announcement from the company. CooperVision has appointed Juan Carlos Aragon to the position of president for the Asia Pacific region. Aragon has more than 20 years of experience within the contact lens industry, both as an international business leader, and as an optometrist. Since beginning with the company in 2000, Aragon has held several positions within CooperVision, most recently as president, Latin America. Prior to that, he was the vice president of international marketing and business operations.   SynergEyes Contact-lens manufacturer SynergEyes recently named David E. Fancher its vice president, global sales. Fancher has more than 14 years of global and national sales and marketing experience in the eyecare industry. From 2005 until his retirement in 2006, he was president of CooperVision Surgical, a start-up in corneal and refractive surgery launched by The Cooper Companies. Before that, Fancher was senior VP of sales for CooperVision.  Advantica EyeCare Managed-vision firm Advantica EyeCare has hired Andy Davis as its senior vice president of sales and marketing. Davis started his career in human resources at Raymond James Financial Services. Most recently, he was a large-group account executive at Aetna.
