David Holmberg

HVHC, a Highmark company and the
parent company of the Eye Care Centers of America
chain as well as of Viva and Davis Vision, has named
David Holmberg its president and chief executive
officer. Holmberg will also continue his role as
president and CEO of San Antonio-based ECCA, a
position he has held since the beginning of this year.
HVHC acquired ECCA, which operates nearly 500 stores
under 11 retail brands, in 2006 as a wholly owned
subsidiary, after acquiring frame maker Viva
International Group in 2005. |

Craig Chasnov
|
Signet Armorlite has signed a
consulting agreement with Craig Chasnov, owner of
three Eyetopian Optical retail locations in southwest
Florida. The San Marcos-based lens manufacturer has
commissioned Chasnov to explore new distribution
channels that can benefit from its Kodak Unique
digital free-form lens technology. Chasnov will
concentrate on both frame and sunglass manufacturers
to present opportunities that do not exist with
current lens processing technology. |

Lorretta Simeon

The Kenmark Group has promoted
Loretta Simeon and Rick Snyder to Regional Sales
Managers in the first quarter of 2008. Simeon will be
responsible for Florida's west coast area and the
Southern territory. Simeon has over 16 years of
experience, predominantly as a National Key Account
Executive. She joined the Kenmark Group in 2006 and
was honored as the Rookie of the Year in 2007. Snyder
will be responsible for San Antonio and the South
Central territory. He has been in the optical industry
for over 15 years and joined the company in 2007. |

Bette Zaret to senior vice president-global marketing.
Her responsibilities include creating and leading all
Transitions brand communications, public-service
initiatives and associations with organizations like
the World Council of Optometry and the American

director, global business insights. Curran, who
previously held the position of global supply chain
director, will develop systems and processes to gather

Denis Fisk, former director of
global education and training, will assume the newly
created role of director, global brand marketing. He
will be responsible for the Transitions brand and its
associated brands. During his 12-year career with
Transitions, Fisk has worked as country and commercial
manager of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. |
Stephanie Carty as been hired as
manager, global employee communications. She most
recently held the role of communications manager at GE
Security, a wholly owned subsidiary of GE.

the optical industry has been named president of
Schneider Optical Machines, North America. The company
is a subsidiary of the German lab equipment
manufacturer Schneider Optic Machine. Atchison
previously served as vice president of sales and
marketing for National Optronics, based in
Charlottesville, Va. |

Flemming Ornskov

Bausch & Lomb has named
Flemming Ornskov, M.D., MPH, as corporate vice
president and global president, Pharmaceuticals. He is
responsible for the company's prescription ophthalmic
pharmaceuticals and generics, as well as its general
eye health and vitamins businesses. Most recently, Dr.
Ornskov was CEO and president of LifeCycle Pharma, an
emerging cardiovascular and transplantation specialty
company.

Prevent Blindness America
Prevent Blindness America (PBA) has
presented its 2008 Investigator Awards to three
recipients. The Investigator Awards are research
grants awarded to projects that seek to put an end to
unnecessary vision loss and blindness.
Dr. Reza Dana, MD at the
Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary received the award
for the study, "Effectiveness and Safety of
Topical Bevacizumab (Avastin) for Treatment of Corneal
Neovascularization." Cynthia Owsley, PhD,
University of Alabama at Birmingham, was honored for
the project, "Vision Impairment and Eye Care
Utilization Among Older Adults Residing in Assisted
Living." Charlotte E. Joslin, OD, at the
University of Illinois at Chicago, was given the award
for the study, "The Role of the Domestic Water
Supply in a Persistent Acanthamoeba Keratitis Outbreak
Following a Contact Lens Solution Recall."

Safilo USA has sadly announced the
passing of one of its most beloved sales
representatives, Jim Champion, a 23-year veteran of
the Safilo sales division. Jim passed away peacefully
in his sleep on June 3rd, from complications related
to a fall. He was 70-years-old. Jim began his career
in the optical industry in the early 1970s working for
Starline Optical in Mississippi and Louisiana. He
re-joined Safilo in 1985, and worked as a sales
representative covering the Houston area. Jim was
known for his dedication to the optical industry and
this past year he achieved status in the prestigious
Safilo USA's Presidents Club. He is survived by his
wife Quin Mao, and his children, Jean Marie and Xia
Lui and his two sisters, Ruth Grimm and Ann Ford. |
