Bruno Salvadori  Signet Armorlite
EYECARE INNOVATOR OF THE MONTH

Bruno Salvadori,
President & CEO

What is the latest lens from Signet Armorlite?

SA's newest offering is the KODAK Unique Lens, which is a digitally surfaced backside progressive, with corridor lengths selected according to the patient's Rx and frame shape. All visual corrections are combined and applied to the back surface of the lens using state-of-the-art technology. The KODAK Unique Lens offers patients the utmost in visual performance for any B measurement, large or very small, down to a 13mm fitting height. Eyecare Professionals need only supply the patient's monocular PD, frame selection and fitting height when ordering KODAK Unique Lenses. No special equipment or techniques are required.

What constitutes SA's state-of-the-art technology?

SA scientists created a breakthrough mathematical process called Vision First Technology™ that reversed traditional lens design methodology. Instead of calculating the lens surface and then measuring the results, designers defined the optical properties for ideal vision and let those calculations determine the corresponding lens surface. The results offer such patient benefits as a smooth continuous power progression across the lens, stable peripheral vision and binocular balanced vision. Together these elements allow a more natural-feeling wearing experience and easier adaptation. In fact, some patients have commented that the visual quality of their KODAK Unique Progressive is comparable to a single vision lens.

Digital Resolution Technology™, instrumental in the lens surfacing procedure, refers to computer-controlled "intelligent" production to enhance lens surface quality. Second-generation toric technology and CNC-controlled production increases optical precision. Simply put, a direct line from the computer to final lens guarantees accuracy. High-speed cutting and integrated surfacing technologies are additional manufacturing refinements. KODAK Unique Lenses can be manufactured to tolerances up to 1/100th diopter, and the visual performance of KODAK Unique Lenses is verified using the latest wavefront technology.

What makes the KODAK Unique Lens "unique" from its competition?

The power of the Kodak brand name, one of the most recognized and trusted names in the world, is known for its quality and innovation. Since 1993, SA has manufactured KODAK Lenses that also include traditional cast lenses, such as the award-winning KODAK Precise® Progressive, and small-frame KODAK Precise Short™ and KODAK Concise® Progressives.

The KODAK Unique Lens is available in more than 30 lens material options:

  1. A complete range of photochromics, including brands such as Transitions®, KODAK InstaShades™ and Corning® SunSensors® Lenses.

  2. Several polarized lens options for comfort and protection, most available in both gray and brown.

  3. Thin, lightweight materials, such as Trivex™, polycarbonate and 1.67 index, that are ideal for drill mounts.

While all KODAK Unique Lenses leave our San Marcos, Calif., location with a scratch-resistant coating, two premium anti-reflective coating choices are available:

  1. KODAK CleAR™ Coating. Front and back super hydrophobic top layer that makes lenses easy to clean.

  2. KODAK Clean‘N'CleAR™ Coating. Super slick, yet edgeable hydrophobic coating that helps keep lenses clean longer, plus anti-static properties to resist dust.

Why should ECPs participate in SA's PracticePlus®?

PracticePlus is a product-support program designed to enhance independent vision care practices. The program provides $10 for every pair of KODAK Progressive Lenses dispensed and redeemed, along with other tools like staff training, ABO-approved CE courses and marketing expertise to help build the ECP's practice. During its ten-year history, PracticePlus has distributed $31-million in member redemptions, state association revenues, regional and AOA sponsorships.

PracticePlus differs from co-op programs because the use of the funding is left to the ECP's discretion. The funding may be paid directly to the dispensers as a trouble-free rewards program. If paid to the business, the funds could be used for such projects as a patient newsletter, website, advertising, bonus programs, employee parties, travel to Vision Expo or even to purchase new equipment. The important point is that the ECP decides what is best for his or her office. With 100% of qualified redemptions going back to the participating practices, PracticePlus members receive an average of $4 million annually.
