Claudio Gottardi
|
Claudio Gottardi has been appointed president of
Marchon and CEO of Marchon International. In his new
role, Gottardi will have responsibility for the
company’s brand management, marketing, design,
product development, new business development and the
company’s international business outside the Western
hemisphere.
Gottardi will report directly to Al Berg, Marchon’s
chief executive officer. Continuing in their current
roles, reporting to Berg, will be Larry Roth,
executive vice president Western hemisphere sales and
Marty Fox, chief operating officer. Prior to Marchon,
Gottardi was with the Sŕfilo Group for 23 years,
serving in a range of executive positions. |
Opticians Association of America

Chris Allen

The Opticians Association of America (OAA) recently
hired Chris Allen to lead the organization as
executive director. In addition, the OAA’s
headquarters has moved to Lakeland, Tenn. - where
Allen is based - from its previous location in
Herndon, Va. Allen has more than 12 years of
professional experience in public relations,
fundraising, government affairs, event management,
executive leadership and general business
administration. |
The Vision Council

Mike Daley

During its annual Executive Summit meeting in January,
The Vision Council confirmed its new slate of officers
for 2009. Mike Daley, Essilor, was elected chairman of
The Vision Council for a two-year term. Jamie
Shyer, Zyloware, was elected vice-chairman. Doug Hepper,
Vision-Ease, was voted secretary/treasurer and Larry
Clarke, Satisloh, will now serve as immediate
past-chair.
Also voted in for second term renewals on The Vision
Council’s board of directors were: Pierre Fay,
Luxottica; Don Howard, Kenmark Group, and Dick
Russo,
Safilo USA. |

Peter Valenti III
|
Bausch & Lomb has named Peter Valenti III as its
president, North America, vision care. He succeeds
Robert Moore, who left the company in mid-2008.
Valenti was most recently vice president and general
manager, surgical devices (U.S.), for
medical-instruments manufacturer Covidien. Before
that, he spent 12 years with Johnson & Johnson in
a variety of U.S. and international roles across
consumer, pharmaceutical and device businesses. |

Rene Soltis

Rene Soltis, Director of Training and Education for
The Vision Council, has been selected to be the
recipient of the 10th annual Pleiades Award. Rene is a
dispensing optician with over 32 years of industry
experience, who has developed and implemented numerous
education and practice building programs for ECPs,
retailers, suppliers and HMO’s. This award will be
presented by the OWA on Friday March 27th at the
Marchon showroom, 8 West 40th Street. Festivities
begin at 6:00 pm, with the award presentation at 6:45
pm. |

Jacinda D. Adams
|
Prevent Blindness America (PBA), has announced the
formation of a new internal leadership team. Joining
the 101-year-old organization are Jacinda D. Adams,
who will serve as vice president of marketing and
development, and Jerome D. Desserich, CPA, who has
been named vice president of finance and
administration/chief financial officer. Andrea M.
Densham, formerly the organization’s senior director
of public health and government affairs, has been
promoted to vice president of that department. Jeff P.
Todd, most recently vice president of PBA, has been
promoted to chief operating officer. |

SECO International announced the recipients of three
key awards presented during the March 4-8 event in
Atlanta. Martha Greenberg, OD, has been named
Optometrist of the South, SECO’s highest honor, for
2009. She practices at EyeCare Professionals in
Russellville, Moulton and Red Bay, Ala. SECO’s Young
Optometrist of the South award will go to Chevron
Ergle, OD, who practices in Jacksonville, Ark. This
award is presented to an OD who has been in practices
for less than 10 years. |
