Robert E. Grant

Bausch & Lomb has named Robert E. Grant chief executive officer and president of its global surgical business, effective Aug. 1. In 2006, Grant began his tenure as Allerganís corporate vice president and president, Allergan Medical, where he led the $3.4 billion Allergan-Inamed post-acquisition integration. Prior to that, Grant served as acting chairman, president and CEO of BiolaseTechnology, Inc., the global cosmetic dentistry company, a company he joined in 2003 as chief operating officer and later, CFO.

Vincenzo Giannelli

Safilo Group has appointed Vincenzo Giannelli as chief financial officer, effective Sept. 1, 2010. Giannelli will report directly to Roberto Vedovotto, CEO of Safilo Group. Giannelli spent the last 10 years at FIAT, where he acquired significant experiences in the areas of finance, planning and controlling, risk management, governance and compliance in various roles, most recently as CFO of FIAT Auto. He joined FIAT in 2001 as executive VP of finance to then become chief information officer of FIAT Auto in 2005 and, two years later, senior VP and CFO of FIAT Powertrain.

Randall Reichle

The American Optometric Association presented awards to several people from both inside and outside the optometric profession at the opening general session of Optometry's Meeting on June 17. Named Optometrist of the Year was Randall Reichle, OD, of Eye Center of Texas, with six offices in that state; Reichle is also a past president of the Texas Optometric Association and is currently vice-chair of the Texas Optometry Board. 

The award for Young Optometrist of the Year, given to ODs who have been in practice 10 years or less, went to Sarah Marossy, OD, of Post Falls Optometric Physicians in Post Falls, Idaho; she is also founder of the Idaho Children's Vision Coalition. James Sandefur, OD, an adjunct professor at the Southern College of Optometry and executive director of the Optometric Association of Louisiana, received the AOA's Distinguished Service Award for his long-time commitment to optometry.

Mike Debono

Westgroupe announces the appointment of Mike Debono to the position of Vice President, North American Sales. For the past 5 years, Mike Debono has been the Canadian National Sales Manager, where he was responsible for the overall sales management of the Western and Wescan Canadian sales force. In his new role, Mike will be responsible for all optical frame sales in North America.

He previously served as VP of New Business Ventures for Coburn Optical, VP of Marketing and Sales at Visionics Corp., and as President and CEO of Vision Advantage International, Inc. Mr. De Long is a past President and Founding Board Member of the Low Vision Council and the Low Vision Division of The Vision Council.

Michael DeAngelo

SynergEyes, Inc. is pleased to announce the expansion of the executive management team with the appointments of Michael DeAngelo to Vice President of Sales, North America and David Fancher to Senior Vice President, Global Sales. DeAngelo brings to SynergEyes over 25 years of national sales management and sales operations experience. He spent 15 years at CooperVision where he was responsible for various aspects of the contact lens division.

Fancher joined SynergEyes in 2008 after spending 14 years in key global sales and marketing leadership positions with CooperVision. From 2005 to 2006, he was President of CooperVision Surgical, Inc. Prior to that he was the Senior Vice President of Sales for the contact lens division of CooperVision.

Davis Vision

Davis Vision has appointed two executives to key management positions. Tracee Thomson has been named vice president of marketing, and Judy Carson has joined the company as vice president of human resources.

In her newly created position, Thomson will lead Davis Visionís marketing efforts including community relations, corporate communications, creative services and the request for proposal (RFP) unit. Carson will be responsible for all of Davis Visionís human resources functions. She comes to Davis from south Florida and brings extensive experience in human resources in the optical and insurance industries.
